This is something I see ALL the time. Amazon sellers who think they’ve built their business big enough to now start thinking about building a website and starting to take sales through that site.

From a position of experience this seems absolutely crazy to think about things in this way. Build website, switch on shopping cart, make sales right away. This is NOT how it works ladies and gents.

But when you’re in the Amazon Seller bubble you can be forgiven for not understanding the eCommerce world as a whole. Believe it or not, Amazon isn’t the entire of the eCommerce industry, but just a part. It’s JUST a channel.

Amazon is a built in source of traffic, so it is possible on day 1 to have sales.

Your own website on the other hand needs a mechanism for generating and attracting traffic. Not only that, websites “age” and build authority over time making it easier to drive traffic to them. Brand new websites will often struggle with traffic, whether it’s organic or paid ads traffic, because of their lack of age and authority.

So if you’ve waited until your “Amazon Business” has got big enough that “you think” you should probably start making sales through your own site, you may be waiting a little while longer for results.

What you should do instead

When you develop a private label brand and start selling through Amazon, you should register a domain and get a REAL website built.

AND NO, I don’t mean you should be taking orders through your site on day 1!

Get a website built properly, with SEO at the forefront of the build. This ensures that your site ages and starts generating authority from day 1 PROPERLY.

Shopify is notoriously bad for being “easy” to start with, but has some less than ideal configurations that don’t make it as SEO friendly as it should be.

We would therefore work with WordPress with WooCommerce to build a great looking site that would get you off to a great start with your brand website at ultra-low cost WITHOUT monthly subscription fees attached to it like with Shopify.

If you’re interested in getting a website for your Amazon Private Label brand, you should speak to us about getting started. We have website build packages to suit an eCommerce business at any stage in development. Whether you’re just starting out with your brand, or thinking about expanding your eCommerce business off Amazon, we have an eCommerce roadmap that maps out a scalable journey to take your business to the next level.

It’s not too late to start your private label brand website. But don’t wait another minute to get it built.
