So you are currently selling on Amazon using the FBA (Fulfilment By Amazon) Program – but you want to know if it’s possible and how to sync WooCommerce with Amazon FBA so when you make a sale on your website, the order is automatically sent to Amazon and fulfilled by Amazon using their “Multi-Channel Fulfilment” offer.

You’re in the right place!

WooCommerce integrates with Amazon and you can make WooCommerce and Amazon sync stock levels so you don’t oversell products on your website that are actually out of stock!

Instead of Amazon FBA – it’s WooCommerce FBA

WooCommerce Amazon Fulfilment

Specifically what you’re after is the WooCommerce Amazon Fulfilment Plugin.

It works in all Amazon Marketplaces and uses the Amazon API connection to synchronise stock levels between your WooCommerce store and your Amazon Seller Central account.

You only need 1 license for this plugin to be able to connect to all regions in which you sell. There are a couple of approaches to using WooCommerce for selling internationally. If you opt to sell from a single installation of WooCommerce the plugin can dynamically change the “Marketplace ID” from which the item is fulfilled – this is great if you’re on the Pan EU or EFN Programmes with your stock distributed all over Europe.

A single WooCommerce website could be used to serve the entire of Europe, whilst shipping to customers from local fulfilment centres.

That’s the sort of sophistication that leaves Shopify in the dust! (Big win for Woo on the WooCommerce vs Shopify front)

Not to mention the fact that Shopify doesn’t even offer an integration with Amazon FBA for Europe! In fact, it doesn’t offer an Amazon FBA Integration outside of the USA and Canada. They obviously aren’t as bothered about Europe as a marketplace – so they’ve left it to the third party developers to come up with a mix of solutions for about $300 a year PER Shopify store. (WooCommerce Amazon Fulfilment Plugin for WooCommerce comes in at a meagre $129 per year)

I’m not ignoring translations here, as of course you can use TranslationPress or WPML to translate all the content on a single WooCommerce store and serve each European country and language as you please whilst having a single WooCommerce Orders screen. Again, if you’re interested, check out our guide on using WooCommerce for multiple countries, currencies, languages and warehouse locations.

WooCommerce Amazon Fulfilment Plugin Limitations (Single European Website)

The dynamic Marketplace ID system for EUROPE within WooCommerce Amazon fulfilment does have limitations.

  • If you’re out of stock in one of the countries, the item will still be sold, but fulfilment will need to be from another Amazon FBA Marketplace (the default) which could cause taxation issues at the best of times, let alone with Brexit.
  • It doesn’t work across Europe AND America at the same time. The dynamic Marketplace ID isn’t THAT dynamic. It can cover Europe, but not at the same time as the USA.

WooCommerce Amazon Fulfilment Plugin for WooCommerce Multisite

Kicking it up a gear, if you’re using a Multi-Site Network to serve different geographic regions with your WooCommerce store, this single WooCommerce Amazon Fulfilment plugin can then be licensed into the Multisite Network.

Once again, from a cost perspective, this approach absolutely kicks Shopify to the kerb – where you’ll need to subscribe to the third party Amazon Integration Apps on a monthly basis for EACH store you setup in your “network”.

This is because Shopify doesn’t offer anything like the WordPress Mutlisite network solution for WooCommerce.

Amazon Multichannel Fulfilment Costs vs FBA

It’s not a surprise that Amazon does charge more to ship items that are sold outside of their marketplace. i.e. you’ll pay more for fulfilment when fulfilling website orders vs when you sell an item on Amazon.

BUT in most cases the cost increase can be offset by a small charge to the customer for single unit orders – plus you can use the shipping charge as an incentive to “buy more” from your website to get into the free shipping band.

You need to do your own numbers.

But in most cases using Amazon as a Fulfilment channel for your WooCommerce store is a stop-gap solution for most.

As soon as you start taking “multi-unit orders” as standard (selling 2, 3 or 4+ items in each basket) it very quickly becomes more cost effective to use a third party fulfilment provider that ISN’T Amazon.

But you need to get your order volume up – and mutli-unit orders up before making the switch.

For some products you may always stick with Amazon fulfilment – and the great thing about this plugin is that you can have both non-Amazon fulfilled Products AND Amazon fulfilled products on your website. When using the WooCommerce Amazon Fulfillment plugin you don’t NEED to fulifill every product using Amazon FBA – it’s highly flexible and adaptable to your business.
