what&#8217;s written on the page in one language, to another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This can be manual translation, or automatic translation using the Google Translation API &#8211; or my recommendation, the DEEP L Automatic Translation API &#8211; which is free for up to 500,000 characters a month (just like Google Translate API)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Content management systems that can be used for multi-lingual websites:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>WordPress (Self hosted)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Magento<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Shopify (SAAS \/ CMS)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"First_Why_not_just_create_a_new_page_post_targeting_another_language\"><\/span>First; Why not just create a new page \/ post targeting another language?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hopefully, as you&#8217;ve landed on this article, you&#8217;ll realise that creating a new page or post and writing it in a different language is not the answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In short, there&#8217;s a specific piece of code and set of instructions you need to provide search engines so they understand that a group of pages are in fact the SAME page, but targeting different locations or languages. (Keeping in mind the UK and USA both speak English, this can particularly be a consideration with sites that want to &#8220;localise&#8221; not just &#8220;translate&#8221;).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The code or &#8220;practice&#8221; I&#8217;m talking about is &#8220;hreflang&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My advice, don&#8217;t go Googling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futurestatemedia.com\/en\/ecommerce-hreflang-tags\/\">&#8220;hreflang tags&#8221; and how to implement them<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">John Mueller of Google himself stated that hreflang is probably one of the most technically difficult concepts in SEO to get your head around and implement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">TBH hreflang is one of the most complex aspects of SEO (if not the most complex one). Feels as easy as a meta-tag, but it gets really hard quickly.<\/p>&mdash; John Mueller (official) \u00b7 #MaybeABot (@JohnMu) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JohnMu\/status\/965507331369984002?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">February 19, 2018<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is true &#8211; if YOU needed to get your head around it to implement it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A very recent (August 10th 2023) <a href=\"https:\/\/ahrefs.com\/blog\/hreflang-study\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study by Ahrefs<\/a> even shows how those who are implementing it, are doing it incorrectly or poorly managing it&#8217;s evolution over time as a website changes.
